Although other websites in this category may boast larger archives of recipes in terms of pure numbers, the largest archive of professionally tested recipes online can be found at MyRecipes.com. Food experts from a range of popular magazines provide MyRecipes.com with a constant feed of tried and tested recipes deemed worthy of publication. These magazines include; Cooking Light, Southern Living, Sunset, Coastal Living, and Real Simple, as well as several other smaller publications. This collection is made easily searchable by an advanced search engine or you can just visit the homepage and look for inspiration amongst the wealth of seasonal, popular or featured recipes on offer. Recipes you have tried and liked, or would like to try, can be saved into MyRecipes as well as rated, commented upon and shared. There also plenty of videos throughout the site which cover the essentials of cooking or focus on one particular dish, ingredient or technique.
All the recipes being professionally tested means that you can be assured of high quality at MyRecipes.com. Furthermore, as users can leave reviews and notes, it is far easier to be confident that a given recipe will work for you. Any good cook will tell you that kitchens, ingredients and preferences differ from person to person and, hence, any recipe requires a certain amount of initiative. As well as the classic recipe categories, MyRecipes.com offer some interesting types of recipes such as make-ahead, no-cook and cooking method specific. We especially appreciated the latter category as it really helps you make the most of a new blender, bread machine or ice cream maker that may otherwise spend the rest of its life in the cupboard gathering dust. There are also diet specific recipes including diabetic, heart-healthy and low sodium recipes which make sticking to a particular regime easy, if not enjoyable.
There are also many features on MyRecipes.com that take it beyond the functions of a simple recipes archive. For example, many of the recipes come with cost per serving information which really helps when it comes to budgeting. Furthermore, users have access to premade shopping lists such as “One List, Five Meals” which makes planning your weekly shop a breeze. If it is the unique range of high quality recipes that initially attracts you to MyRecipes, the constant flow of new material will keep you coming back. From seasonal features and interesting articles to the daily “Healthy Dinner Tonight” recipe with its accompanying how-to video, each new visit to MyRecipes.com will render something new.
In sum, although basic in terms of features, with a well organized archive of varied and high quality recipes, MyRecipes features strong foundations which earn it one of our top ten spots. Although search engine and community technology is somewhat behind many other products in this category, there is certainly no lack of a range of recipes you can rely on; the most important aspect of a recipes website we’re sure you’ll agree. Furthermore, MyRecipes are currently working to expand and develop their website making it more than likely that they will be rising through the ranks in the near future.
